What is CTET and why is it important?

CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) is a national-level eligibility test conducted by CBSE to certify candidates as eligible for teaching positions in central government schools, including Kendriya Vidyalaya (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya (NVS), and schools in Union Territories. Passing CTET is mandatory for appointment as a teacher in these institutions. It is one of the most widely taken teaching eligibility exams in India, with lakhs of candidates appearing each session.

What is the difference between CTET Paper 1 and Paper 2?

CTET Paper 1 qualifies you to teach Classes 1 to 5 (Primary Level). CTET Paper 2 qualifies you to teach Classes 6 to 8 (Upper Primary Level). Each paper has 150 MCQs worth 150 marks and is 2.5 hours long. Both papers include Child Development and Pedagogy as a compulsory section. Candidates who wish to teach both primary and upper-primary levels can appear for both papers in the same session.

What is the eligibility for CTET 2026?

For CTET Paper 1, candidates must have cleared Senior Secondary (12th) with at least 50% marks and hold a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed). For CTET Paper 2, candidates must have a graduation degree with minimum 45% marks and a 1-year B.Ed qualification. A 5% relaxation in qualifying marks is available for reserved category candidates.

How long is the CTET certificate valid?

The CTET certificate issued for the 2026 session is valid for 7 years from the date of issue. Note: CBSE had earlier announced a proposal for lifetime validity, but candidates should always verify with the current official notification at ctet.nic.in as individual recruiting organisations (KVS, NVS etc.) may also set their own eligibility windows within which the certificate must be used.

How much salary can a CTET-qualified teacher earn?

CTET-qualified teachers can expect a pay scale between ₹9,300 and ₹34,800, with in-hand salary going up to ₹48,000 per month, depending on the school, post, and grade level. KVS and NVS positions typically come with additional benefits including DA, HRA, and medical allowance, making them among the most sought-after government teaching jobs in India.

Is CTET available in Hindi medium?

Yes. PrepWords' CTET 2026 notes (Level 1 and Level 2) are available in Hindi (हिंदी). The course covers Child Development and Pedagogy, subject-specific content for both levels, and is structured according to the latest CBSE syllabus. Hindi-medium aspirants from Rajasthan, UP, MP, and Bihar will find the content directly accessible without a language barrier.

Is there any age limit to appear for CTET?

No. There is no upper or lower age limit prescribed by CBSE for appearing in CTET. Any candidate who fulfils the educational qualification of D.El.Ed for Paper 1 or B.Ed for Paper 2 can apply regardless of age.

How many times can I attempt CTET?

There is no limit on the number of attempts for CTET. Candidates can appear in every session until they qualify. CTET is conducted twice a year — typically in February and September/October — giving candidates multiple opportunities to clear the exam.

What subjects are covered in CTET Paper 2?

CTET Paper 2 has five sections: Child Development and Pedagogy (compulsory, 30 questions), Language 1 (30 questions), Language 2 (30 questions), and either Mathematics and Science (60 questions) for candidates choosing the Science/Maths stream, or Social Studies/Social Science (60 questions) for candidates choosing the Humanities stream. Total: 150 questions, 150 marks.
